In August 2017, Brandolyn welcomed the Cottonwood Elementary School teachers and staff into the 2017 - 2018 school year with a Time To Teach refresher training. Open-Gate Foundation collect's data throughout the year via observations, then Brandolyn meets with teachers and staff three times this school year to assist them with their implementation of Time To Teach strategies as part of their STEM readiness.
Northern Nevada STEM Ambassador Program Orientation
In January 2018, Spectrum (our newest corporate partner!) hosted our first Northern Nevada STEM Ambassador Program Orientation kn Reno! Eight STEM Ambassadors and four local educators spent the evening with us learning about academic standards and our Program. We look forward to hosting a similar event in Las Vegas and for our rural colleagues in the near future!

Fun at our STEM Art Party!
In September 2017, Open-Gate Foundation hosted our first STEM Art Party at Round Table Pizza in Fernley. Erin Brumage from Color Wheels, and Brandolyn from Open-Gate, guided the group through how painting can be used to support science education, and reinforce ELA and math practices.
Time To Teach Training at Cottonwood Elementary School, Fernley Nevada
From March to August 2017 our Executive Director, Brandolyn Thran, served as an AmeriCorp Naturalist at Nevada Outdoor School. Brandolyn served kids from Winnemucca and Elko, introducing them to the natural world around them through school field-trips, day camps, hiking, and camping at Lamoille Canyon.
